New financing round: Launch event provides official framework for the second call for proposals by IKI Small Grants
Today, the Federal Environment Ministry and the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH are launching the second call for proposals under the "IKI Small Grants" scheme, deploying funds provided by the International Climate Initiative (IKI). The programme aims to support creative ideas that are tailored to local needs and effectively reduce greenhouse gas emissions. IKI Small Grants also promotes projects that enhance local adaptation measures and focus on forest and biodiversity conservation. The programme places special emphasis on project ideas that actively address the aim of gender equality. Applications from small NGOs and initiatives working on climate action and biodiversity conservation in developing countries and emerging economies will be accepted until 9 February 2021.
Federal Environment Minister Schulze commented: "It is essential to support small projects and organisations, also because this allows us to engage with a broad variety of climate initiatives and environmental projects at local level and to empower the many committed players on site. By promoting small local projects, we can respond in a targeted manner to local climate change impacts and, in particular, strengthen and use the capacity of those who are directly affected. The small-scale projects programme therefore perfectly complements the large projects we usually support under the IKI."
The programme aims to select, by 2025, more than 100 projects in international calls for proposals. These projects will be awarded grants of up to 100,000 euros each. During the first IKI Small Grants call for proposals in 2019, 38 projects in 27 countries were selected with a funding volume of approximately three million euros. Some of the first round projects are already under way.
