Holzer Kobler Architekturen wins concept call
With the support of the Federal Building Ministry, a heritage centre is being established for the White City in Tel Aviv, the world's largest ensemble of buildings of classical modernism, which was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2003. The concept call for the Max-Liebling House, carried out by the Federal Building Ministry and the City of Tel Aviv, has been decided. The winning design was submitted by the Swiss office Holzer Kobler Architekturen in Zurich.
State Secretary for Building Gunther Adler and Mayor Ron Huldai opened the exhibition with the results of the concept call for the Max-Liebling House in Tel Aviv yesterday. Bringing (White) City life inside the building was the core concept of the winning design. Holzer Kobler Architekturen underline this with a highly visible mirror balloon on the roof of the planned building in the Idelson Street 29 in Tel Aviv.
The concept call with three participants invited from Germany and three from Israel aimed to identify potential solutions to accommodate the different usage areas in the heritage centre. In addition, a detail was required that is to be realised on the building in the original scale of 1:1. Five participants submitted designs: HG Merz Architekten Museumsgestalter, Chezweitz GmbH museale und urbane Szenografie, Holzer Kobler Architekturen, Studio Oren Sagiv and Studio Hanan de Lange.
The two second place awards went to the offices of HG Merz and Chezweitz. The winner was chosen by a German-Israeli jury. All designs submitted dealt with the style of Bauhaus architecture and the structures of the White City at a high level. The use and composition of the various building materials of the White City also played a role.
The exhibition of designs submitted will be shown first in Tel Aviv and in Berlin afterwards.
