Procedure to find a general commissioner/curator by 14 February

Today, the invitation to tender starts for a general commissioner/curator for the German contribution to the 16th Venice Architecture Biennale in 2018. A negotiation procedure is intended, preceded by a public invitation to participate. The deadline is on 14 February, 2017, 11 am. On behalf of the Federal Building Ministry, the Federal Institute for Research on Building, Urban Affairs and Spatial Development (BBSR) is issuing the call for tenders.

The international Venice Architecture Biennale, taking place every two years, is the world’s most prestigious exhibition on new trends in architecture and urban development. The Federal Republic of Germany is going to participate with its own contributions to the exhibition, which are financed by the Federal Building Ministry.

For every Biennale, a new general commissioner/curator is assigned responsibility for Germany’s contribution in Venice. He or she is appointed after an open competition procedure for the best concept for the exhibition following a proposal by an expert committee. This year’s members: Prof. Matthias Sauerbruch (Sauerbruch Hutton Berlin), Barbara Ettinger-Brinckmann (President BAK), Heiner Farwick (President BDA), Hans Georg Wagner (President BDB), Peter Cachola Schmal (general commissioner 2016; DAM Frankfurt/M.), Dr. Claudia Perren (Bauhaus Dessau Foundation), Reiner Nagel (Federal Foundation of Baukultur), Prof. Matthias Böttger (art director DAZ, Berlin), Prof. Barbara Engel (Karlsruhe Institute of Technology), Prof. Jórunn Ragnarsdóttir (Lederer Ragnarsdóttir Oei, Stuttgart), Prof. Dr. Werner Durth (TU Darmstadt).
