From 1 to 4 June 2004, Germany will host the International Conference for Renewable Energies (renewables2004). Federal Environment Minister Jürgen Trittin plans to have the vehicle fleet serving the Conference fueled by renewable energies. "We want to show that renewables can also be used in the transport sector," said the Minister. "Climate friendly transport will be experienced at first hand."

Technologies and strategies for using renewable energies in transport are particularly important because worldwide the transport sector consumes more than one fifth of the total energy - in Europe consumption is even higher at over one quarter. Both in industrialised and developing countries, transport's share in energy consumption continues to grow. To provide an opportunity for industry to demonstrate its technical potential and expertise, the Federal Environment Ministry has invited tenders for sponsoring the mobility services for the renewables2004 conference.

The "mobility provider renewables2004" will showcase technological and organisational concepts which are already workable for the particularly sensitive energy consumption sector. This will strengthen the role of renewable energies in the transport sector while at the same time meeting stringent environmental requirements. Detailed information and the text of the tender can be requested directly from the Federal Environment Ministry.
