China is key partner in implementation of Paris Agreement and the new 2030 Agenda
Rita Schwarzelühr-Sutter, Parliamentary State Secretary at the Federal Environment Ministry, will participate in the 4th Sino-German government consultations on Sunday and Monday in Beijing. The consultations will be centred around a joint plenary session of the two governments, chaired by Chancellor Merkel and Premier Li Keqiang. China’s Minister of Environmental Protection, Chen Jining, will sign an agreement with Schwarzelühr-Sutter to strengthen bilateral cooperation in the areas of environmental protection and sustainable development.
Prior to her departure for Beijing, Schwarzelühr-Sutter explained: "China and Germany are important partners in the implementation of the Paris Agreement and the 2030 Agenda adopted at the UN Sustainable Development Summit. I am pleased that the Chinese and German governments will be among the first to deliver reports on national implementation of the 2030 Agenda at the UN sustainable development forum in July in New York. We will continue to support China on its journey towards more sustainable economic activity."
Xie Zhenhau, the Chinese special representative who attended the Paris negotiations, will discuss the implementation of the Paris Agreement with Schwarzelühr-Sutter. Both Germany and China were major players in the negotiations of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the Paris Agreement. The Chinese government is very interested in Germany’s expertise in these areas, in particular on how to facilitate swift progress on pollution control in China, among other things.
