The most important international scientific conference in the field of photovoltaics will be held in Dresden from 4 to 8 September 2006. Federal Environment Minister Jürgen Trittin noted: "Germany as market leader in the field of photovoltaic power generation is proud to be able to host this conference of international importance in Dresden. It provides an opportunity to get a political alliance with the other leading photovoltaic nations Japan and USA off the ground."
The European Photovoltaic Solar Energy Conference and Exhibition is worldwide the most important conference in this sector. The conference in Dresden is to send out a clear political signal with respect to the innovation potential of photovoltaics and its long-term chances for an energy supply that is manageable in the future. Recent scientific findings will be presented and discussed in numerous presentations by experts and discussion platforms. The exhibition which takes place at the same time will present the latest product developments in the field of solar panels, solar modules and systems technology.
The last two conferences which took place in Paris in 2004 and Barcelona in 2005 were a great success with more than 2000 participants and about 270 exhibitors. For the next year Dresden as the centre of an eastern German region for high-tech production and research was selected to host the conference. Moreover, Dresden is a top ranking European cultural city and as it will be celebrating its 800th anniversary in 2006, it will be a major attraction for the conference participants from more than 70 countries.
