Taking back reprocessed waste

| Minutes and reports | Nuclear Safety

Federal Minister Barbara Hendricks has presented an overall concept for taking back radioactive waste from reprocessing plants in France and the United Kingdom.

According to the concept, the 24 castor casks (20 from the United Kingdom and four from France) are to be distributed evenly across Germany to four interim storage sites.

As a result of the reallocation of high-level radioactive waste from reprocessing in France, it is no longer necessary, as previously agreed, to take back a total of 152 casks containing super-compacted waste (for the most part, cases and structural components used in fuel elements).
