On the fringe of today’s European Environment Council, Germany’s Environment Minister Barbara Hendricks and her Romanian colleague Attila Korodi signed an interministerial framework agreement on joint environmental projects in Romania.

Under this agreement, the two countries aim to intensify their cooperation on environmental matters that has existed since 1993.

The interministerial framework agreement forms the basis for implementing eco-friendly investment projects designed to play a "lighthouse" role in CO2 reduction.

Barbara Hendricks: "Through this agreement we are helping to demonstrate green and climate-friendly technologies in Romania that are also economically viable. By doing so we are also encouraging more companies to make investments that are good for the environment."

Through its Environmental Innovation Programme for Projects Abroad, the Federal Environment Ministry promotes environmental projects that have a special focus on climate measures with a model character or are capable of producing direct transboundary environmental benefits.
